MES-EU new partnership has been launched
The Minister of Emergency Situations Feliks Tsolakyan hosted the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Armenia Inga Stanytė-Toločkien and the Minister-Counsellor, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Swedish Embassy Birger Karlsson. Minister Tsolakyan highly appreciated Armenia-EU relationship and emphasized the possibility of resolving the main issues in a number of fields through mutual efforts and sustainable cooperation.
The beginning of MES-EU new partnership has been announced. The initial document of the Twinning Program was signed jointly to strengthen the capacity and institutional development of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Rescue Service in the field of population protection.
The Minister Tsolakyan said that the goal of the program is to make Armenia a more resilient country and reduce the impact of various disasters on human life, economy of the country and communities. “The introduction of joint efforts of our partners in this field has already become a good tradition, as a single platform, they are taking steps to make Armenia resistant to disaster. This program once again provides an opportunity for the Ministry of Emergency Situations to implement meaningful activity towards improvement the efficiency of the legislative and political expansion of the population protection system and effective management of human resources. Dear guests, I express my gratitude for such an initiative, wishing you all the best in the most important activity of strengthening the disaster-resistant Armenia”,- said the Minister.
Andrea Wiktorin highlighted the activation of steps aimed at strengthening the established relations and expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Emergency Situations for their efforts in the framework of launching the Twinning program. “Twinning successfully integrates EU member states and involves their experience. EU is involved as a financial supporter, Sweden and Lithuania as investors of their experience”,- said the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Armenia and the Minister-Counsellor, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Swedish Embassy emphasized that all the preconditions are provided for the successful cooperation. The expert group from Sweden and Lithuania will arrive to Armenia for two years.
“The cooperation with Lithuania on population protection and disaster risks had already started after Spitak earthquake. We will spare no effort for the implementation of all the actions in the framework of Swedish-Lithuanian consortium to be for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia”,- said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Armenia Inga Stanytė-Toločkien.
“We will share our experience in the development of our capabilities, it will be very important for the Ministry. Twinning Program will be implemented successfully in my opinion”,- added the Minister-Counsellor, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Swedish Embassy Birger Karlsson.
The representative of the consortium will be in the Ministry of Emergency Situations during the implementation of the Twinning, who will ensure the cooperation between the MES and consortium. The representative will arrive in Armenia in October, 2020.
