ES Minister received the delegation led by the Head of the Office of Defense Cooperation of the U.S. Embassy
On September 2, ES Minister Andranik Piloyan met with the newly appointed Head of the Office of Defense Cooperation of the US Embassy in Armenia, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel M. Singleton.
The meeting was also attended by Armen Pambukhchyan, the First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, Armen Gasparyan, the Director of the Rescue Service, Gregory Pipes, Colonel, the newly appointed Defense Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, Michael Hayes, Major, the Bilateral Cooperation Officer of the Embassy and Ani Melkumyan, Military-to-Military Program Coordinator in the U.S. Embassy in Armenia.
Minister Piloyan congratulated on the occasion of the new appointment Daniel M. Singleton and Gregory Pipes and expressed his hope that not only will be implemented the planned programs, but also will be launched a new cooperation from now on. A. Piloyan, among other cooperation programs, expressed his gratitude for the reconstruction and modernization of a number of rescue squad bases within the framework of the Humanitarian Assistance within the U.S. European Command. In particular, reference was made to the construction of 2 new fire and rescue buildings of Gyumri of the Shirak Regional Rescue Department of the Rescue Service of MES of RA and the renovation activities implemented in Akhuryan within the framework of that program.
Gregory Pipes, Colonel, the Defense Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in his turn assured that the current cooperation programs will not only continue with the same efficiency, but also will be strengthened, "as there is a well-founded". The sides discussed possible directions of cooperation, reaffirmed their readiness for effective implementation of the programs.
At the end of the meeting, A. Piloyan invited the guests to participate in a special tactical demonstration exercise on "Organization and implementation of rescue operations in case of a strong earthquake in the disaster area" that will be held on September 3 at the Lusakert training center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
